You also have to remember there were three 1st Team All-Americans blocking for Yeldon on the offensive line in his freshman year. Offensive linemen make running backs look good.

Exactly right and like it or not when he went in 2012 teams didn't stack the box quite like they did with Lacy. That is the nature of being a back up RB. You get carries on down/distance situations that are usually less than ideal.
