One of the biggest beliefs was that to that point STAR was very seldom a subbed player. Most of them were base starters who moved inside. Having a CB shortage seemed to change that, stretching guys like Sunseri and Williams to their limits in those roles.

Smith was suppose to right the ship, but then gets arrested and flushed that chance down the drain.

I think he would have gotten a shot in the base, but he wasn't gonna to have a long leash. Could be apparent by how fast he was thrown out of the playbook completely. Didn't have much experience, but had a few more bodies to send out there. Which I guess if you had a lot, you had none.
