They all said that the storm basically exploded at the last moment and that the actual system changed direction at the last minute on top of it causing a literal doomsday scenario.

It would happen in most major cities if everyone had to leave at once. And even some mid size cities. Have you guys ever tried to get out of Charleston, SC from James Island at rush hour?
