Those of you making fun of MS are short-sighted. We're celebrating because we're not 51st. Baby steps.

The fact that Arkansas is ahead of New England states like Conneticut make it obvious this list is worthless.

Less than one out of five Alabama eighth grade students were proficient in math on national assessments last year, worse than any other state. Reading skills were nearly as bad at the eighth grade level, with just around 25% of students demonstrating proficiency in 2013. Students in Alabama face limited opportunities to succeed as well. Just 69% of students had a parent working full-time and year round, while just 42% had at least one parent with a postsecondary degree — both worse than most other states.

Not sure what this is about, and not sure I want to read all the background, but anything that puts WV as #9 in anything to do with education is suspect from the start.

Read the "grading" criteria in the link. Its laughable.
Porker just trying to do some rustling.
Nothing new, nothing to see.

LA at 15 is actually pretty impressive considering the draconian higher ed cuts we've experienced.

Any ranking that has Louisiana in the top half is questionable at best.

Most of the study had very little to do with actual results or quality of education. When looking at student achievement, here were the results:
"C-"Grades:
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
"D" Grades:
Arkansas
Alabama
Missouri
Tennessee
South Carolina
"F" Grades:
Louisiana
Mississippi
