Those were the days when mostly tourney champs went dancing, very few at-large berths. 22-25 teams made the dance in '74. SCAR had consistently ranked Top 5 teams from '69-74 but up until '72 the ACC cock-blocked Carolina from the dance. In '72 we left the ACC because of it and around that time decided we were going to be a baseball and football school.

I thought your BJ McKie (sp?) team in the 1990s was really good and always felt bad that they got upset twice in the first round and never won a game.

Well, I mean, I did feel bad, before I met you.

Thanks ... yeah, our guards all made first team All-SEC that year. BJ McKie, Larry Davis and Melvin Watson were all first team All-SEC. Imagine what that team would have been like had Kevin Garnet and Jermaine O'Oneal not jumped straight to the NBA. Or, rather, O'Neal would have been a freshman the next year, but still.

I think we were 15-1 in conference play and beat Kentucky twice that year ... they went on to either win or play in the national championship game I think. Hell, it wasn't that long ago that SCAR with Renaldo Balkman beat Florida twice in the same year and should have beaten them in the conference tourney ... then Florida went on to win the national championship.

We've won a couple of NITs (championships) recently but those don't count.

Yep, a #3 seed and we lost 61-62 to the Richmond Spyders who had a reputation for knocking-off higher seeds (see Auburn and Barkley in the 80s for example). The year before we had lost as a #2 seed to Coppin State who was a 30 pt dog to us.
