I am new to Alabama football - honestly not trolling - and would like to know more about the program from the fans' perspectives. Info past, present and predictions for the future will be appreciated. Thanks.

The most important answer will come from you. What is it that caused you to become an Alabama fan? As with Bucs I was a fan from birth and my first memories of Alabama football were watching with my dad or listening to John Forney on the radio.

A good way to start learning about All things Alabama might be to dig into this reading list.

RollBamaRoll Reading Room Index

Or watch the Bear Bryant Video series (6 parts beginning here.)

Anything really. What's your favorite things about Bama? If someone asked you, "Why do you like that team"?, what would you say? What's the 3 most important things any Bama fan should know?

Well I was raised that way simple answer

I guess the tradition and long standing history of Southern football

The many historic defensive efforts and some of the finest players on defense to ever play in the South all come from Alabama

The long standing history of excellence and always being a competitor on the national scene and playing a very large role in the history of the SEC and the history of College Football as a whole

Are the 3 things I'm most proud of

I wasn't an Alabama fan until 2008, when I accepted OOS scholarships to go to school there. I knew nothing about Bama, or what roll tide meant. But I learned.

to this day, i can still hear john forneys voice in my head.

one of my favorite stories from my childhood. bama was playing on tv. dont remember who against. but we were using 2 b/w tv's. 1 for sound, 1 for the picture. lol, just poor country folks. anyway, the 1 with the pic went out. dad didnt get mad, he just left. but when he returned, he had a brand spanking new 25 inch zenith color tv. we caught the end of the game. as those great philosophers, alabama, once said, we were walking in high cotton.

#1) Nothing sux like a Big Orange. (U of Tenn Viles)

#2) Auburn will always measure themselves against their big brother and come up short.

#3) Alabama has owned the majority of the real estate between the ears of the LSU nation since Bryant came home to Tuscaloosa. They consider themselves to be a great program but their long term record against Alabama says otherwise. The battle between truth and desire has caused a great rip in the fabric of their sanity.

I was always a Bama fan, born and raised. I didn't know what it was until the '92 season however. Born in 79, I didn't have a true defining season until then. I feel the 92 sugar bowl is a must watch for any Bama fan.

There have been a ton of books written about Alabama football.

If you want another outsider's perspective about what it means to be an Alabama fan, you should try Eli Gold's book Crimson Nation.

The 1999 Iron bowl made me a BAMA fan. Fort Benning Georgia was/is littered with more Sidewalk Auburn fans than you can count. and I got tired of hearing about the orange and blue so I took the opposite side during the weeks leading into the game. I have been stuck ever since. My fandom even affected my post-military career choice and I love working here.

Same. OOS from Florida in 2009, graduated December 2012. Not a "since birth" Bama fan but I learned.

The Goal Line Stand is my first true Bama memory. I was born into it. My kids have been washed in crimson. They could sing the fight song at 4. I love telling them stories about the tradition at Alabama. If you haven't been to the museum you really need to go. Just understand that Alabama is better at football than anybody else.

Thanks for the tips and info. I've bought to of the RBR reading list books on Amazon already.

A few more questions. what phrases (besides "Roll Bama Roll") are most used/cherished? What things, when said, anger a Bama fan the most (please keep it clean)? Whose our QB gonna be next season?

I do not get angry at any derogatory things other fans say. Alabama has ultimate scoreboard. Doesn't matter what "they" say.

If Coker transfers in he is the starter I think.
