In the Richt/Pruitt Presser yesterday, when a reporter asked about recruiting, Richt rambled for a while about doing things the right way, and said he doesn't even know what an uncommitable offer is....
looking at you bama.....

Well, take this past Summer when QBs had an uncommittable offer until they came in and threw at camp.
"We like you, but we're not accepting you unless you come to our camp and show us in person what you can do."

Sorta like when that girl told you she would go out with you, but needed to see what her "friend" was doing first. Her friend is a five star QB and you are you.

It's where they offer an athlete, but he cannot commit until the coach makes it a committable offer. In other words the coaching staff hasn't been able to evaluate yet, or they have some others who are higher on the board.

I think Richt was referring to the carpet-bombing of offers that some out-of-state schools do in Georgia to try to be the first in on a prospect in case they actually do want them down the line. The in-state school can't do that because the negative consequences of turning a kid down are much greater. There are schools that are much worse about this than Bama, btw

I'm trying to resist making a joke about Pruitt and "doing things the right way" especially if you believe the FSU rumors.
All kidding aside, we offer kids early who have a lot of potential, but we may want some more film of them to see if they are a good fit. The uncommittable offer let's the kid know we've noticed them, and we want to evaluate them further.

An extremely overused term.

They can be contingent on other factors. You can tell a kid he has a place in your class only if he gets his grades in order first for example.

It makes them feel spacial without actually having to be on the hook for anything.
It's just like any other hoop schools make prospects jump through for an offer, but...it's on fire. You either waste your time going through it and making it, or just end up getting burned.

Looking at Alabama huh?
In that case an "uncommittable" offer is something Alabama uses(only Alabama) to win the frick out of National Championships. Sorry y'all suck of offering guys.

An offer where if the athlete wants to commit the staff will reevaluate him before accepting the offer.
Not something you wanna do a lot on your own turf. Doesn't leave a good image when you have to back off a kid.
Or it's a fake offer.

Yup... basically dangling bait in front of a recruit so the school will be in the back of his mind, just in case shite doesn't panout with guys higher on the list. Good backup plan tactic.

an uncommittable offer is simply a device opposing fans use to explain why a recruit picks a rival school.

For Alabama, it would be the "plan b" guys.
Plan A guys, like LF, Wallace, Tabor, Roc all have committable offers from Alabama.
The "plan b" guys behind them can't commit until the status of the "plan a" guys clear up.

An uncommitable offer is what LSU offers any recruit that chooses to go somewhere else. At least it seems that way.
