The dlineman are usually playing 2-gap so that they eat up blocks which allows the linebackers or defensive backs to get to the quarterback on blitzes. This allows you to bring pressure from anywhere on the field. I understand how the 3-4 works. There is still room for playmakers on the edge like Upshaw and Dareus that can produce a rush.
