Last time (05) he was a standalone OC, USCw was easily one of the most prolific offenses in the history of college football

Bottom line is Saban really respects Lane and his eval and criticisms of Nuss when he came a few weeks ago is what prompted Saban to consider him for the job. He was the 1st name he called and only interview. It is a risky hire but the rewards could be massive. From all accounts his release from USCw pretty much humbled him and made him realize he has a specialty and possibly tried as a HC to do too much (this top year was a really great example). He crashed and burned as a HC there is no denying that but he is an offensive mastermind and a lightning rod recruiting wise (at a position where Bama had 2 non-factors with the last 2 OCs). I personally am excited to see the impact he has on our offense.

You don't say! So Lane was critical of someone knowing that by being critical it was going to help himself.

Am I the only Bama fan who is less than thrilled to have hired Kiffin?

I'm amazed at the sudden lovefest for him by Bama fans when a month ago you couldn't find a single Bama fan who had one good thing to say about this guy. Hope I'm wrong but on the face of it this seems like a disaster in waiting.
