There was not a single man between Madden and the basket when he released the ball. That is a pretty open look.
When he started that shot, he was directly in front of the tallest player on the court who had his hands straight up in the air. Do you not see the position he had to get in just to get a clear look at the basket? That's not open. By that logic, any shot is "open" if someone leans a little.

Look at how the entire Mizzou team committed to stopping that layup. All he has to do is kick it to #1 and he has the option to either take that wide open midrange jumper or even take a few steps in and bank it off the glass. Taking that shot was the worst option he had.

It was drawn up to get him to the rim, that's about as good a shot you're going to get at the rim at the buzzer. I would take that shot 100 times before the shots he took against Kentucky and Georgia.

He could have probably pulled up a little earlier like he did vs Vanderbilt and kicked it out, but hindsight is 20/20.

This makes me think you don't watch much Arkansas basketball.

#1 = Mardracus Wade.

Even if you knew that and were just using short hand... you really want the ball in Mardracus Wade's hands with < 5 seconds left?
