Aren't there special rules that prevent the HC from getting involved in any given kid's recruitment before his senior year? That's why the assistants and position coaches figure so prominently in the relationships that they develop with the staff, rather than the HC, I'd venture.

Yeah, there are limitations on how much contact a head coach can have with a recruit.
