Its just funny after years of kids only choosing UK/Ole Miss if they had a personal connection to the school/state (Tim Couch/Eli Manning) or that was their best SEC offer that both schools without any hint of on field improvement is competing with the big boys. Stoops is doing well recruiting Ohio (in fact that is a genius move for a Kentucky coach). And the only big time guy they are in it for is Matt Elam an instate kid. That makes sense at least. And no matter how bad your first year is, a coach tends to get a mulligan. In fact a bad first can making recruiting better in the first full class a coach goes after.
But Freeze is entering year three without the so called turnaround in sight. So it makes sense to say Ole Miss is cheating. Especially if you've read Meat Market and The Blind Side. Hugh Freeze landed an assistant coaching job at Ole Miss because he was Mike Oher's coach (and the only main character they replaced with a fictional person in the movie). And he was "Recruiting coordinator" for Ed Ogeron, someone who has had their fair share of run ins with the NCAA when it comes to recruiting.
Freeze is similar to Gus Malzahn. Gus paid his dues as a high school coach, won multiple state titles, was a real innovator in the game. He still got his big break in college because Nutt wanted to keep Mustain and his teammates from Springdale. Most guys get the big move from high school to college because of their players, fact of life. Especially since the move was tiny christian school to Ole Miss. I mean Bill Clark didn't jump from Prattville to Alabama. He was a much more successful high school coach than Freeze but where is he at? Jacksonville State.
Freeze on the other hand was a guy running the same generic spread off the DVDs that every coach is. Memphis the cesspool of SEC recruiting. The book makes it clear about the truth the movie washed over. Oher was a football star at a ghetto school and getting attention from colleges before he came to Freeze's school. It was just thought he would never qualify even for a JUCO. He then was enrolled as a school with a competitive academic record. As we all know sometime later he happened to be adopted by a family of Ole Miss boosters. Who used Oher to get famous.
But everything is perfectly legit.
