What are you talking aout? Boykin, Davis, Johnson, and Houston were all just as studly in college. If there's a gripe, it's that we weren't able to consistently surround them with comparable talent (except for Davis, anyway).
Actually I see our condition as a combination of both. Some of our better players have definitely performed better in the pros vs college. But I agree that their supporting cast was a significant part of the problem that prevented players like Stafford, Moreno, Green and MoMass, who all played together, from winning a championship. I conclude that Richt has not been good at building complete teams; there always seems to be significant deficiencies that have prevented championship contention. Not maintaining a full roster due to not accounting routine attrition has certainly contributed to that lack of support/depth.

There's no longterm plan or consistency, it seems, in our recruiting. It's merely a "let's see what holes need filling this year." It's actually quite astounding, for that reason, that we have begun stockpiling QB, RB, and OL talent. Beginning to do the same on the DL.

ALL players improve from High School to college, and then from college to Pros. Combination of their bodies maturing, their minds maturing, more intensive practice and coaching time. In high school a coach gets 2-4 hours of practice time a day. In college it's 3-5. In the pros it's more like 7-8. In high school it is limited by class time and parents. In college it is class time and study time. In the pros they get paid, so they are expected to work out, study sessions and on field practice.
If a player does not play better from one level to the next, he won't be playing at the higher level much longer.
I keep seeing where people complain that the coaching staff does not do their jobs because players flourish in the pros. Ask a pro if he feels he is playing at a much higher level than he did in college and see what he says. Then ask him why.
