IMO I think they make they make the defensive calls pre snap more complicated than it should be. Especially with these uptempo spread/read option type teams. Each time they change the D call, assignments change. That leads to a lot of busted coverages and missed assignments. Keep it simple., especially for younger, inexperienced guys. These are 18-21 year old kids who probably think about chasing tail 80% of the time.

I agree. Drove me frickin nuts last night watching three of four guys sub out play after play in the early going. The coaching staff outthinks itself against these HUNH teams and they have not found a way to keep up yet.

ETA: Seems like a majority of the time, the D is not set pre-snap and still trying to get guys lined up.
