If the choices by the playoff committee are as political as I expect, we will see the four "best" conference champs every year. 16 would be too many games. Nothing is perfect with 119 teams of such differing schedules, but 8 is as good as it can get.

I agree that 8 would be better. With 8 teams, it is even less likely that the "best team" gets left out. But whether or not the teams are chosen for political reasons is a separate and distinct issue from the number of teams chosen. Personally, I'd perfer the BCSCG selection process to continue, with the top 4 teams (or 8, whenever that inevitable expansion happens) making it into the playoff.
