How could you have arguably one of the greatest seasons of all time, and not cross the 50 yard line in the NC to team you already beat? Still thinking about that one.
It happens across all sports in most rematches.
Which is why - in a sport like college football which has a very limited season and schedule - that forcing LSU to beat Bama twice was the 2nd greatest sham of the BCS era (behind 2003) -
You don't reward the winner of the SEC - undefeated - by forcing them to beat a team twice to win the title - while Bama only has to beat the team once.
It's psychological torture - and unconscionable and the mental and emotional edge always goes with the team that lost the first meeting...time and time again.
The minute Bama was put into that game by ESPN - they were gifted the National Title by a corrupt system.
I count that Bama title about as much as I count 1978 (lost to #1 USC) and 1973 (Bama finished 4th in the AP poll after losing to #1 Notre Dame.) Obviously meaning - I (like most rational adults) don't count those titles at all for Bama.
LSU was screwed plain and simple. It's disingenuous to simply say - well they should have won the 2nd meeting if they really deserved it. That's not how second chances and rematches work in sports...all across the board.
If LSU loses the first matchup, they probably win the title. Which shows how screwy and made for TV phony the BCS era and that year especially was.
It was all a ratings ploy and money grab - plain and simple. Bama won the ratings title - that is all they really won. LSU beat them in the real elimination round. You can't lose in the Elite 8 in March Madness and then claim the title later.

Your wrong, if LSU would of lost that first meeting I guarantee you they would of dropped at least 4 to 5 down in the polls and no chance for a rematch with Bama. I totally believe this!!!

Cut the mental edge crap. Explain the 2003 and 2010 SEC Championships. Did Georgia and South Carolina just become awful teams towards season's end? Where was their motivation? It looks like the team that won the first matchup by a touchdown had something to prove and won the rematch in impressive fashion.
