Bill Snyder Appreciation Thread (Auburn plays KState in 2014)

While we often talk about the best coaches in the country on this board and frequently see different names like Saban, Spurrier and Malzahn thrown around from the SEC, there is a coach from the Big 12 that never gets the appreciation that he deserves outside of Manhattan, Kansas, Bill Snyder. The man who truly does the most with the least. (Kansas recruiting blows)
Going into next year, I am excited most (to see the game not go to Kansas) to travel out to Kansas and meet up with the Wildcats just to see this legend in what may be one of his last years
Prior to Snyder's first season in 1989, Sports Illustrated published an article about Kansas State football entitled "[link=(
https://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1068750)]Futility U[/link]," which labeled the school "America's most hapless team.
The previous 3 seasons of Kansas State resulted in no wins and put them on par with Arkansas as far as programs go.
Previous 13 Kansas State Coaches Record
137-393-17 for a win % of 0.266
In Bill Snyder's 3rd Year, Snyder led the Wildcats to only their 3rd winning season in nearly 30 years.
In year 5, Snyder led the Kansas State Wildcats to only their second 9+ win in the history of the program and first since 1910. This 9+ win would start one of the more impressive streaks of wins in college history. Kansas State under Bill Snyder would win 9 or more games for 8 straight years and 10 of 11 which includes six 11 win seasons. Additionally, Kansas State, who had enver finished a season ranked previously, would finished the season ranked in the top 20 each year of 9+ wins during this streak.
After a single down year, Bill Snyder led KState to another couple 11 win seasons along with a few more down years before retiring.
After Kansas State made a disastrous hire following Bill Snyder's retirement, Bill Snyder was lured back at the age of 70 to head a program. Snyder has lead the Wildcats back to 4 straight bowl games and 2 10+ win season.
The guy truly is a great coach and deserves the SEC Rant's recognition despite never coaching here

Bill Snyder is an outstanding coach. I genuinely enjoy watching Kansas State play because of the guy.

He looks familiar. Did I see him at that Lemon Party website?

KSU (and Oregon) were perennial bottom 10 teams back in the early 80's.

It was Arkansas 29, Kansas State 16, in the 2012 Cotton Bowl.

The time he and Darren Sproles crushed Big Game Bob and "The best team ever" in 2003 was flat out epic.
Is he an alumni of the school? That is the only way I could see him being so loyal to the school for so long

He really is an awesome coach and at his age you wonder how he does it. He surrounds himself with the right people and everyone buys in to his philosophy. The fact that he can still pull this off at 70+ years of age gives me hope that Saban will be at Alabama for many more successful years.

He's one coffee-cup drinkin' at a post-game presser mofo.....

Scary to think what that guy would have done at a school/state with any resources.
He good.

Snyder is a great coach, no question there. But you won't enjoy a trip to Manhattan, kansas. That place is an armpit.

So it's like making a trip to Starkville, MS? Gotcha.

No joke. There is nothing fun about driving across the state of Kansas. Pure torture.
Can't hate Bill Snyder. One of the great coaches.

Guy is definitely a legend. Will be a shame whenever he has to hang it up for good.
KState is one of the non SEC teams I make an effort to watch whenever possible

Old Man Snyder > bear > Saban < Gus

If he coached at a bigger program with more resources he would be near unstoppable. He does all this with horrible recruiting classes.

No Snyder played football at Mizzou and a NAIA school near KC, William Jewell. He is from St Joe, MO. Sad thing is Mizzou passed on hiring him to hire Bob Freaking Stull. Guy is a great coach for sure.

I support this thread, holy cow can that guy coach. I mean this season, although not a 10 win one, may be one of his best ever when it comes to coaching up players. They lost to a 1AA team at the beginning of the year (albeit a very good one) and ended up still winning 8 games and looking damn good doing it.

No doubt.. Some guys get all the luck and take on a team that has more than enough talent. Others seem to pull off the wins no matter what.
Snyder falls in the second category easily.
