A play or 2 from beating the team thats going to the natty. Not a play or 2 from playing in the natty.

A "play or two" doesn't apply when you lose by 3+ scores.
A&M was "a play or two" away from beating Alabama (7 points), Auburn (4 points), and Missouri (7 points), but were not even close to beating LSU.
