OU to the SEC, pros and cons

First, don't give me that s**t about Clemson, Fla St, Ok St, KState, Texas, TTech, etc. They will never be joining the SEC so don't waste time.
There's only 3 states and 5 schools that are legit expansion options right now, in no particular order: OU, VTech, UVA, NC St, UNC.
OU pros:
- large national fan base
- non-embarrassing academics
- maybe the only legit add that would increase TV football ratings immediately
- big SEC-style stadium
- tradition
OU cons:
- Aggies might not like it, would compete for their Texas recruits
- OU burned some bridges with Mizzou and Aggie when they left the B12
- would be number 15, not sure if that's do-able without getting another.
- current AD and President are dbags.
- probably have to wait a number of year to get closer to end of B12 GOR.
- difficulty of separting from little brother.
pro/con?
- would make SEC even tougher.
As a Mizzou fan I guess I'd be ok with adding OU as long everyone got an immediate bump in TV revenue. Probably would lead to Mizzou moving over to SEC West which isn't a big deal, but makes more geographic sense.

I wouldn't mind OU in the SEC, but it won't happen.

OU and OSU will never separate...

SEC is Football and Bases Heavy..
Ark faded from Nolan Richardson era in Hoops, UK and Fla the two lone Heavyweights..
Holding out for UNC/Duke or UNC/NCSt..or bust
SEC doesn't need to add, even if the others go racing 20 wide.

OU/Okie State, UVA/VT and UNC/Duke are for sure package deals. No conference is getting one without the other.
We don't need any more schools anyways. We're still trying to figure out how to schedule for 14 teams. It'd be a true shitshow if Bham was trying to figure out 16 teams

Where do we get these frickers that think they should be starting threads with less than 1k post? I mean holy shite how many times must we discuss OU to the Sec. If you would use the search function I am sure you will see that this shite has been beat to death

Take home message? It won't happen. Culturally OU is midwestern rather than southern, but then again so are states like Missouri, Kentucky, and Florida so that isn't the barrier.
The Big 12 GOR makes it a financially unappealing prospect for OU. Even without the GOR Oklahoma State is probably tied to OU and the SEC has no interest in two new programs from a state the size of Oklahoma. There's nothing wrong with expanding into Oklahoma theoretically but it isn't as desirable as expanding into Virginia or North Carolina - both of which are also pretty much off limits because of GOR agreements in the ACC.
Even if you pretended that OU was free to leave for the SEC you'd have to bring in one more major program to even out the numbers between the two SEC divisions. Who would be the realistic second? Texas is the only other desirable program from teh Big 12 and they are not coming (even if they wanted to they might face significant SEC resistance from A&M, MU, and perhaps Arkansas)

Kansas says hello
Slive added Mizzou to soften us up for heading north. SEC has football teams, what they need is basketball teams for content in the winter and spring. SEC TV needs year round content, not just 3 months in the fall. Kentucky and Kansas in the same conference would bolster basketball revenues and give Mizzou their rival back. There is money to be made in them Jayhawks, and conference realignment is all about the benjamin's.

I missed why the SEC needs to be tougher.

Not compelling enough.
It seems to me that if you want to add teams to the SEC, the first question you have to answer is, why?
None of the pros you listed really answer that question.

Cons
Not southeastern
Middle of nowhere - can't get there from here
Would make us look more Sunbelt or Conf USA geographically
Will the new SEC west be the old Big XII?
Pros
Great program with history and tradition
Always competitive
A top HC and staff
Awesome fans, travel well
Bottom line - Against

Texas AMC would not allow it, so it won't ever happen. End of discussion.

I would be okay with it. What I don't want is UT coming to the SEC. Basically same situation Florida has with respect to FSU.
Not going to deny it.... Nice for A&M to have the recruiting advantage of the SEC over UT/Big 12.

OU will not come to the SEC and have to compete with Bama, LSU, Auburn, etc. every year.

Con- I quit caring about college football.
frick OU, I want their program to rot from the inside in the Big 12.
Oh and
Con: Few tvs in that state.

Don't think that's true. OU just seemed to be what they were, a good to elite football school. Not much else.
Don't know if anyone cared much either way about them, seemed they were under Texas's thumb like everyone else.
As others have pointed out though, no reason to make the SEC even more of a gauntlet.
You have 3-4 legit national contenders annually in the SEC already. Why make it even more of a gauntlet while teams from the BIG 10 and PAC get a free ride off their shite conferences.
