Malzahn may very well end up being a good HC but he has no track record at this level yet to judge him by. Let the man string together a few seasons with continued success before anointing him the next big thing.

You've contracted the dumb.

Statistically, at this point in his career, Malzahn is nowhere as good as Terry Bowden. You can't base Malzahn's effectiveness on record alone.

If you base it on game action, he's had a superb year. Magical season. But Auburn has also won several games in the last few seconds. These things generally have a way of evening out over time.

Personally, I think he brings a lot to the table. I respect his ability and frankly hate that Auburn has him. But I think it is quite a fair point to believe that Malzahn needs to have a little deeper resume before anointing him as a great head coach.

He continued success at a small program, then engineered perhaps the greatest turnaround in college football history.

I don't care whether we label him a great coach or not, but he's certainly an up and comer, a well-regarded CFB coach, a great offensive mind, whatever. There is absolutely no reason to doubt that he is a good and potentially great HC at this point.

For all the points people make about last second wins, they're ignoring A) only one of those was a fluke, the others were engineered and earned, and B) he's got a team that in other years may be 10-2 or worse on the verge of a national title, and believing they can win it.

Auburn is undermanned but playing out of their minds. That is the sign of a good coach, IMO. I can't promise he'll dominate in the future, but I like his chances going forward. Not to slight NM at all, but it isn't like he's Cam Newton. The defense has huge holes. As I've said before, it'll be really fun to see what Gus can do in an offense with a better passing attack and a stronger defense.
