Everyone has heard about ESPN refusing to air a pro-Jesus Christmas commercial from a hospital, right?

ESPN blasted after refusing to run Christmas ad with reference to Jesus.

Of course, ESPN has a long history of being anti-Jesus.

Well, after catching some backlash, they turned it around and now they are going to allow it ...

MSN Fox Sports: ESPN reverses anti-Jesus decision.

Word is, the SEC had something to say about ESPN's original decision and was the overriding factor in ESPN reversing their decision. Not the outcry from the churches, Conservatives, angry viewers ... but a simple call from someone in the SEC expressing concern over the decision and the impact it might have concerning the launch of the SEC Network in the Conservative South.

If so, is this a good or bad thing IYO? Should we even have gotten involved, or stayed out of it and risked having 1000s of SEC fans, if not 10x1000s being bombarded with ESPN's anti-Jesus stance in the months leading up to the launch and the subscription push? Let's admit that we are, after all, tBible Belt.

Here's the better question heading into this marriage between ESPN and the SEC Network.

Would you, as a fan of your SEC program, protest against ESPN and boycott, or would have boycotted, against ESPN by calling or writing or tweeting your cable provider and ESPN regarding their anti-Jesus stance? Did it piss you off in the least?

If the rumors are true, that a call was made from B-ham to ESPN expressing concern, and rightfully so, then me personally ... honestly, I'm proud of the SEC for doing it. It could have had a negative effect on the launch and I'm all about Freedom of Speech in the process.

ETA: ESPN now represents the SEC in some regard ... and they need to remember who we are as a whole. If they are going to rep us, their policies need to take into consideration our outlooks and views moreso than the northeast's on all matters where OUR network is concerned IMHO.

In fairness to ESPN, I don't think they are necessarily anti-Jesus. They just didn't want to offend all the heathens with a pro-Jesus message. They were kind of in a tight spot.

With that said, frick ESPN.

You Christians are so sensitive. I'm disappointed ESPN would run this ad at the pressure of people fighting some imaginary war on Christmas. This isn't an anti-Jesus stance, it's just not a pro-Jesus stance. How you people can't see the difference is beyond me.

ESPN is owned by Disney and Disney is one of the most liberal media conglomerates around. I expressed concerns about this when SEC Network plans were announced.

Also, most of the deep south is probably anti-Catholic(I know quite a few who are VERY anti-Catholic), so I find this aspect of it comical.

Lol.

I am to assume this is well documented?

ESPN, is a lot of things, but being "anti-Jesus" is a new one.

I would suppose that this call came from higher than ESPN on not airing it initially.

ESPN is owned by the Disney family of networks, which has been pretty open in the past supporting Gay rights and such. (TeamCornbread )

Personally, I wouldn't have called and complained, but if the Hospital is paying the money to run the advertisement, shouldn't they be able to run whatever the frick they please?

Finally some honesty.

Always laugh at the sec fans who bitch about ESPN on this forum...

Clueless in how ESPN has been helping you get to the BCS Title game since 2006.

I don't like the fact that most of the major media outlets are owned by a very small group and that they try and dictate what we the people should believe. If you disagree with what they are doing and don't speak up then you are just as much to blame. So no I have no issues with it nor would I have an issue with anyone voicing the opposite opinion.

Uh... how... what?

Not everyone in the south is Christian. Not everyone who is a fan of an SEC school is a Christian. Not everyone who is going to be paying for and watching this network is a Christian. (Just as everyone in the North is not a godless heathen as you seem to want to portray them...) So why is it so easy to dismiss them?

I agree. I am glad they took a stand. If more people decide to stand up for what is right, maybe just maybe we can turn this country around.

I don't believe in Jesus. I don't want your Jesus signs in my yard. But I don't care what ESPN does or doesn't allow.

My feelings about Jesus are similar to my feelings about Alabama football. Jesus is great, it's just the people who say they love Jesus that I don't tend to like.

This country was founded on Christian principles...It's sad the world leader in sports is too scared to run a Jesus add

I think I'm going to stop watching till the SEC Network comes on board
