I am coaching one of my daughters in a 4th/5th grade league.

During the game today, we were inbounding the ball and something happened that I thought was a violation on the other team but I'm not sure. I've tried to Google but I get very generic rules.

Here's what happened:

Our team was inbounding underneath our basket. One of our girls ran toward the girl inbounding in order to get open. When she got close, her defender stepped partially out of bounds to get between her and the girl inbounding. I understand that the player guarding the inbounder may not cross the line, but is it ok for a defender who is playing someone else to do so? (No contact was made)

I'm hoping for a link to some general rules/standards. Thanks.

I don't have a link off the top of my head (sorry), but I know that that's legal given that there's no contact with the player attempting to inbound, like you said
