Not an Alabama fan, so no meltdown. Kind of just stating what should be obvoius. A loss on the road in the last seconds of a game that the coach seemingly lost on purpose by not kicking a short field goal and then trying an impossibly long one as time expired doesn't prove to me that they aren't the best team.
If the kick had not been run back the game simply would have gone into overtime. Auburn had the momentum and probably would have also won in overtime.
BTW, great football teams are good in all aspects of the game including Special Teams, kicking and coaching.

I felt we would lose the game in overtime because of our kicking woes. I fully agreed with the decision to go for a longshot FG at the end of regulation.
When we were up by a touchdown with 40 seconds left and gave up that pass, THAT was when the national title escaped us. We can point to a lot of other things, but to me we blew the big one when we gave that up. (And I know it was an absolutely remarkable play by Marshall, I just felt that there was SOME defense that could have ensured we didn't do the ONE THING that allowed them back in it.)

True. Alabama isn't bad at special teams though. Foster actually had quite a good season percentage on field goals going into the game. Him freezing could easily happen to any college player, so it's not like him having one bad game automatically means Bama's special teams game is shite.
Auburn played the game close enough to be able to take advantage of Bama's many mistakes. I don't necessarily think Saban was outcoached; Bama outgained AU by over 100 yards and had 3 (really, 4, if you include the no-kick from the 30 yard line) missed field goals, plus the same number of touchdowns as Auburn. How often do you lose a game like that? Not very often. Sometimes crazy things just happen. It's part of the sport.
