State going to the Liberty and Vandy to the Compass bowl.

Is that why state's trip to Jacksonville last year had abysmal attendance whereas vandy has sold out its bowl allotment the past few years? Vandy has shown it travels well to bowl games, home games are a different story, I believe it comes down to fan base demographics

I'm afraid this is true, even though attendance at MSU's hideous performance in Jacksonville last year was awful. Vandy has sold out its allotment (and then some) for all three of its bowls in the past 5 years.
The "inverted" fan base discussed on this Stanford blog applies to Vandy:

Correct... Ticket sales to last year's Gator Bowl set records that will never be broken... Ever.

Exactly. And it's the very reason we are going to the Music City Bowl and they're not. They went last year and the city of Nashville and the Music City Bowl lost a lot of money because of it.
The Liberty Bowl is taking State over them because they know State will sellout of tickets. Vandy going to the Compass Bowl is on them for having shitty fans.
I think if Vandy goes to the Compass Bowl, Franklin is taking the next job offer that comes his way.

That's interesting, since Vandy sold out their allotment last time they went to the Liberty Bowl (2011)...
