It's pretty hard to make 3 2-point conversions in a row, so he obviously was going for 7+7+7+3(a field goal) = 24
if he missed two two point conversions, 6+6+8 (20) a field goal wouldn't have tied it up.
ETA 6+7+7 would end in the same scenario

He didn't have time for 3 more possessions with the way LSU was running the ball.
