USC has said nothing about Sumlin being offered or even being the prime candidate, but somehow A&M people know EXACTLY what happened, and USC side has no idea even though they were the ones holding the GD coaching search.

OK, here is how things work mi muchacho.

National Power U wants coach of Big State Regional. NPU talks to his agent. Agent then talks to BSR to gauge their will to keep coach. A back and forth ensues.

Each school has insiders who leak info to the press. NPU b/c they can't fathom being turned down and think its a done deal and BSR b/c they have big swinging dick syndrome and a fat wallet burning a hole in their pocket.

Agent smiles as bidding war ramps up.

Big State Regional decides if they want to play with the big boys they need to pay like it. They make an offer high enough to fend off all comers.

National Power U can't go as high and begins leaking to the press they never really wanted the coach in an effort to save face. This kicks into overdrive when the coach they do get leaves the dissatisfied fanbase nonplussed.
