Tony Fein, a former marine, played for us and came up with it (threw it up the first time in the '08 Florida game). Team does it as a kind of tribute to him.

ETA: It means our defense plays like landsharks.

and that has nothing to do with him being a former marine, per your explanation so why is that relevant?
