I think it is a foregone conclusion that AU will be looking to establish the running game against UA. They are currently ranked 2nd in the nation with a little over 320 yards a game. They are matched up against a UA defense that is 4th in rushing D in terms of yards allowed with 91.3 ypg.

Top 5 running game going against a top 5 rushing D will make for excellent football. However does Auburn have the defense necessary to beat a balanced team like Alabama? lets look at the stats.

UA brings into this Iron Bowl a top 40 offense that has shown the ability to score points either by air or ground. They average 444.7 ypg. They are about as balanced a team as you can get in the NCAA. They boast a 24th ranking in rushing yards per game with 211.5 ypg and a passing offense that comes into the rankings as the 63rd best in the nation, 233.3 ypg. The Tide's scoring offense shows a very respectable 39.7 ppg, good enough for a tie at 13th. In addition UA's team passing efficiency sits in 11th place in the country at 162.11

AU has a total defensive yards allowed ranking of 69th. They allow 406.9 ypg. The Tigers rushing and passing D come in at 51st and 98th respectively. Allowing 152.1 ypg on the ground combined with a 254.8 ypg through the air.

No. They really shouldn't even play this game. Waste of time IMO.

It's not Auburn's defense I'm worried about as much as their offense. I think Alabama would give them the same trouble they would give Oregon -- too much speed on defense.

Jesse Palmer said that stats mean nothing in rivalry games. You did all this work for nothing.

the ones who gave up a 21 point lead in one quarter? sure, they're good enough.

Their D is underrated. It's better than Mississippi State's, but worse than LSU and Ole Miss imo. So....WAY better than last year, but still only decent.
