Ron Dayne just called. He says this precedence is just fine, and that Ladanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees can kiss his arse.

Brees shoulda won a national title, dammit.

Actually, I don't think Dayne beat out Tomlinson, but I know he beat out Brees one year. In any event, that's why I did clarify about the absence of a clear frontrunner. That's probably why Sullivan, who somebody mentioned above, won it. He was a mediocre quarterback by Heisman standards, but the next in line was a running back from the Ivy League.
