It isn't a rivalry. SC needs to dickride OM and A&M in order to win the east. It is completely out of their control. So SC trolls Mizzou, Mizzou fans take the bait instead of just moving on. Once the east is decided one way or the other normalcy will return.
ETA - And much of that is fueled by the fact that SC fans fear that they will have once again have beaten the team that ends up winning the east. I can understand their frustration.
