quote:

Almost as soon as Paul Pasqualoni was fired and sent on his way, the name of Houston Nutt surfaced as a possible candidate for the head coaching job at UConn. The Internet and college football chat rooms buzzed about the former Arkansas and Ole Miss coach being on the wish list of the decision makers in Storrs. Nutt, who is currently working for the CBS Sports Network as a football analyst, reportedly denied having any interest in the position.

However, Nutt’s actions may be signaling something different. According to a prominent high school football coach in Connecticut, Nutt reached out to him recently with a phone call to inquire about football in the state.

Now I just feel bad for Connecticut football. Though I can't see a guy who pronounces Enrique as "In Ricky" as a good fit for UConn football. But this has to be the equivalent of the Yankees having a problem finding a decent general their only option would be enlisting the help of the worst Confederate general that exists.

Nutt has the best agent since Custer when General Terry told President Grant "He's got this, no worries."

The thing about the Nutt is that he's a mediocre coach that can actually pull a rabbit out of his hat from time to time. He had some good players to make it happen -- DMac, Felix, Shawn Andrews, etc -- but he's engineered some bafflingly unlikely seasons and upsets (1998 was just bizarre.) He could very well manage to make noise at UConn, probably by going 1-11 one season and 9-3 the next, then back to 0-12 followed by 10-2, and so on until the entire football program collapses from the bipolar chaos.

He could sign 50 players a year at UConn and nobody would give a shi*.

“Houston wanted to know about the landscape of football in Connecticut and what kind of players we had, the skill-level, and the hot-beds for talent,” said the coach who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “I guess he’s doing his research. I was taken by surprise a little bit. I’m not sure how he got my cell number.”

The reason he was moderately successful at Arkansas was because he actually wanted to be there. Look what happened to ole miss the moment jevan, mccluster, mike Wallace, shay hodge, Greg hardy, and all of our other really good players left for the pros. He won't have this at uconn. I don't think there's an ounce of passion left in his body. Don't believe me? Go back and watch film from nutt's last season at ole miss. 2-10 with an arse raping from la tech

A lot of Huskie fans refer to Skip Holtz as the father of modern Huskie football ... since he carried them into DI FBS and won big up there until he resigned to come work with Lou at SCAR thinking he would get the head coaching job here when Lou retired.

But he fricked it all up with his ego and his wife.

Connecticut should simply hire Skip back and be done with it. Skip would do well there.

UCONN's special teams better be ready to be special!

They're players need to be ready to have a lot of heart and to play for the helmet.

If this happens then at least the UCONN media and fans will know who called the play, and a lot of other good plays, brother.
