Well you have a lot more caravan fans now is probably the main reason. When I was at bama, Roll Tide was still yelled all the time and we f'ing sucked (2000-2004). I remember when fights would almost break out at bars and people would play peacemaker by saying "Roll Tide?" to each sides and it'd dissolve.

I rarely heard it until the late 2000s or on campus at T-Town. It was never directed to anyone either. Now I hear it pretty damn often.
