In my experience, especially since 2008, Bama fans feel the need to shout "roll tide!" to anyone wearing clothing representing another team. Why is that?

Yes, you're absolutely right. I thought I had seen Gene Stallings the other day at the store. I ran up to him and started screaming go Big Orange, you know, so that he knew I'm a Tennessee fan. Turns out, it wasn't Stallings but whatever, it seemed like the thing to do at the time.

Weaker than walking up to someone and yelling roll tide? Perhaps not everyone is in a rush to get into a pissing match with strangers based on emblem on their shirt.

Not really. UT fans don't come up and scream GO VOLS in your face. AU fans don't do that with War Eagle. Maybe LSU fans will. But Bama fans don't simply give friendly "roll tides" they come up to your family and scream it at them.
