Bowls in general seem less important now than they did pre-BCS, even the "BCS" bowls like the Sugar Bowl. They all have a bit of an exhibition feel now that there is a "championship" game. In a way they have always had somewhat of an exhibition feel to me, but it's even more so now. Obviously, would rather go to the Sugar Bowl than any non-BCSCG bowl, but it definitely used to seem bigger.

The fact that it is rarely the SEC champion in the Sugar Bowl now contributes to this as well. Also the Sugar seems to get some less than desirable matchups lately too.

I agree with this 100%. I think you can look back across any BSC bowl game and see that most of the matchups weren't as desirable as people would have wanted which is a huge draw back of the BCS system.

Add in the fact that the title games are played at one of the four BCS game locations adds to another draw back by the system. Starting in 98' they should have just held all title games in one spot to mellow the exhibition feeling.
