I did know about the equestrians. I was actually surprised it was just club, not intercollegiate. Wonder what the investment by the university would have to be to get it set up competitively? Probably higher than one might think, given they'd be obligated to provide and maintain the stable (that would fall under "equipment," I imagine) unless equestrian teams regularly ride on personally-owned horses.

Some clubs are actually better than the NCAA teams due to NCAA rules. The clubs have less restrictions because they may have a more international governing body. Only one 4 star event in North America that I am aware of. Most of the big things are outside the US and the NCAA just covers the US. I think almost every SEC school has at least a club.

The schools balk at the money but they forget the daddy's who wind up making big donations to their little girls alma mater. As for the horses and stable, not as hard to open those money doors when you are starting out with folks who have money in the first place. Not hard to get horses, tack, board, and vet work donated.
