How can that be possible

What is there outside of physicality, agility, speed, timing, and hands. Seems like it would be the easiest to evauate. Definitely one of the least cerebral. WRs as a whole seem to be the dumbest corp on the field normaly

Production seems to speak for itself with only a few variables to consider at every level of play

I'm not paid to evaluate football players so I don't really know. I think level of competition is hard to judge for receivers since a big-time HS wide receiver tends to dominate against any HS corner. It's also probably more cerebral than we realize. Confidence is also hugely important. Somebody gets the drops in their head, they'll have a tough time for awhile. I just know that WR and OL are said to be the hardest to evaluate. The bust rate for "elite" HS wide receivers is very high.

Just seems like we hang our hat on "serviceable" and hope for some standouts. And thats not to say we dont end up with some guys i really like every season. Im talking from a recruiting standpoint

We aren't doing that at all, imo. We're trying to recruit the best players we can using the staff's own evaluations. Who the staff values may be very different from who the services value
