Serious question for the rectuitniks. And dont refer me to page 1317 of that ridiculous recruiting thead
Given the production of our offense over the last several years and the importance we put here on QB play. How come it seems (to me) like going after WRs is almost an afterthought every year
Its not a complaint so much as a question . If we're going to live and die by our passing game (normally) and rely on outscoring our opponents the way we seem content to, why are we not pushing harder for big time playmakers to throw to

WR is one of the hardest positions to evaluate outside of a few guys that only come around once in a while (A.J., Julio, Patterson, etc.) who are "can't miss". Florida has loaded up on elite receivers for awhile but can't find adequate ones in games.
We generally have done pretty well anyway with highly recruited receivers. Mitchell, Terry, Rumph, JSW, and to a certain extent Reggie Davis and LeMay, were all highly recruited receivers (top 250-300 players, Rumph was the top JUCO WR). We've also hit on Conley and Bennett, and Wooten is serviceable.
We've got 2 good ones committed right now and one in 2015. They fit what were looking for (tall, lanky, sure hands). Shakenneth Williams is going to be good for us. Think Conley with more burst. We're still in the hunt for Josh Malone as well.

A better question would be, why the frick don't we recruit better offense of an defense of linemen? Oh wait, I know, because that would require us winning championships. You can't get the big hogs without the hardware to go with it. They want to go where they can win a championship. That is the only way the big boys get recognized, so we don't recruit them well. O-Line and D-Line win championships and we don't have either one. Never really have except for a player here or there. When is the last time our O-Line was great all the way across? We have never had one like Bama or LSU.

Tradition, mostly.

Others have already given good answers but I'll chime in.
First of all, it's not like we don't recruit them. I'm sure we offer all the top WR recruits nationwide every year. My biggest point though, similar to our almost laughable woes in OL recruiting, is that we've had a knack for big time receivers to not produce.
By all accounts, a 4* or high 4* WR should be a big time playmaker. And we've gotten dozens of 4* receivers who have been fair to pretty good for us. Sean Bailey, Wooten, Kenneth Harris, and the list goes on were all 4* receivers that everyone in the SEC wanted. They just didn't live up to the hype for whatever reason. And look at a guy like DGB at missouri, who was the #1 OVERALL player in america to some, and he has barely done anything.
Also as mentioned, unless you're AJ Green it can just be pretty difficult to truly evaluate WRs based on competition. Marlon Brown was the #1 player in his state, but he played in a small league against nobodies and it took him 3 years at UGA to really adjust.

AJ Green, Tavarres King, Malcome Mitchell, all highly rated guys, I think we have done pretty well recently recruiting great receivers.
When this Tramel Terry kid comes off his ACL rehab, when Rumph comes off his whatever the frick he has, they can both be great.
I challenge your premise that we don't recruit elite receivers.
