Depends what you will use them for. Day at the pool or tailgating? Not worth it. The Coleman Extreme does just as good of a job, and are considerably lighter. Fishing all day in the extreme heat or sitting at the beach all day? Worth it.
They've become a status symbol.

this. they are legit as far as being tough as nails and really keeping your ice cooler for longer.
i'd put them in the same category as costas, croakies, and columbia fishing shirts in that people who have no need for them buy them more often than not.
great for a hunting, beach, or road trip, but outside of that it's not worth the price.

100% dead on, all of it.
I have a Pelican that is about 100 less than a yeti that I use for work. It sits in the sun all day in the heat and can hold ice for about 2 or 3 days once the drinks are cooled down. Basically i drop in ice Monday morning and Tuesday morning and it lasts the rest of the week.
