Not really, if they played an inelligible player, knowing or not, they can get in trouble.

You're right, they can. But teams have also gotten off with playing ineligible players. If the school goes through the right steps reporting everything. Let's hope Alabama did.

They seem to have done a good job of it under Saban so far.

"If the school doesn't know"

This may help mitigate serious future penalties (scholly reductions, postseason bans) but my understanding is it won't help Alabama with avoiding the 2011 and 2012 titles being vacated. Heck, we did absolutely everything we could possibly be expected to do as an institution during the textbook case but still had to vacate every game the 5 players involved in played in. Unless I'm missing something I don't see how that part of this situation won't end up being just like the textbook case.

And I'm trying to understand why this attorney/agent is sending money to Luther Davis. How can anyone who is apparently this successful be stupid enough to send or wire money that is illegal by NCAA rules and that can be so easily traced? That's the most puzzling thing to me. My first instinct that we have some boosters that are so arrogant to think they can be so blatant in wiring money and not get caught. On the other hand, said booster can't possibly that stupid and the money was the payments between an agent and a player when Davis was his NFL client . Just thinking out loud. I always think the worst when it comes to these type stories come out so I'll assume the worst.
