Dunno how many times, but last time it happened was 1989.

Unreal. So after browsing Wiki, I've learned that outside of a season that included ties in 1901 I believe, the 1989 season where Auburn ruined Bama perfect season followed by a lost to Thug U is the only other occurrence. Other single regular season loses, outside of the Iron Bowls to traditional rival Tennessee has only occurred twice. It amazes me that in all these years of football, Bama has only been snake bitten by Auburn once.

Mind Blown.

The better team almost always wins the IB. Very few major upsets.

Bama and AU were both undefeated in 1994 although AU had just been tied by UGA (before OT) to snap a 20 game win streak the game before. Bama won that one when AU came up an inch short on a somewhat controversial measurement at about the bama 35 on the last drive of the game. AU was on probation that year though and was not playing for anything and Bama went on to lose to UF in the SECCG.

Other than that I think the only other time both met as unbeatens was 1971 which bama won, but both teams went on to lose their bowl games.
