The implication is that he "should" have caught it. If everyone did their job once the ball was in the air, that would have been a successful play for Alabama. Which is false.

That's because he should have. When you have two hands on the ball, no matter how ill-advised your QB's throw may have been, it is your job to catch it. A failure to do so is on you, not your QB.
