Watch the 30 for 30 "Pony Excess"...the old SWC wrote the book on buying players and Oklahoma recruits the same player. Barry was known for being very agressive in that dept. Everyone did it and it was a wink, wink amoungst alumni. In fact, with all the money flying around back then, there was somewhat of a competition between programs to get the player at any cost. (for the record I played against and lived 22 miles from Erick Dickerson)

But, don't feel bad the SEC caught on and caught up in the late '80's...See Harvey Williams A&M / LSU.

The final 3 IIRC were Chokelahome, Southern Miss and Alabama. Alabama was chasing Dupree as their first choice giving Pat Dye too much of an opening to chase his top choice (Bo Jackson). Ken Donahue was in charge of recruting Jackson and he was no match for Pat Dye. In the end, Alabama missed out on both.

So Harvey Williams = all of the SWC/Big 8 cheating that took place for decades?

lulz - get real.

Sure, there were some schools that cheated, and there were a lot of them doing it. Bama and Tennessee especially at one time. The ACC's taterheads were probably, on record speaking, the biggest cheaters of all time in terms of money, goods and services changing hands.

But in no way has the SEC EVER equaled the old SWC and the Big 8 in terms of top-to-bottom cheating. Don't try the deflection management bullshite aTm fan.
