My biggest concern with Yost's departure was recruiting, and I can't help but think that's had a negative impact on our recruiting efforts.

I went back and took a look at where the top in state guys were going and where they were from. One of things I noticed, that MIGHT MAYBE POSSIBLY contribute to the difficulties in STL is there are a billion high schools here. It's by no means scientific, but going back to about '07, the kids out of STL that went to larger D1 schools came from 31 different high schools. KC kids came from roughly 18 different high schools. Could that make it difficult to develop relationships with the high school coaches when there are so many different programs? Dunno.

The other thing I noticed about STL recruits is (and Killz will love me for this) but most of them come from "west" STL schools, which would include the St. Charles Schools. A couple kids from Parkway North, one from Hazelwood Central, but no other kids from schools North or South County. For those familiar, none from the other Hazelwood schools, Pattonville or from the Lindbergh's, Oakville's or Mehlville's in South County.

The other curious thing is how poorly we do with Rock Bridge in Columbia. MU has gotten 1, while GA has gotten 3 to go with CU, Nubs, OU, WF and Northwestern.

On the west side of the state, we've been poor at Blue Springs, which is dominated by the kansas schools. But the one that surprised me was Rockhurst, which I thought was almost a farm system for MU, but we've gotten only 1 of the last 7 kids to go to larger D1 schools. Interesting, the last kids MU got from there was Drew Temple who never made it to MU. Was there something with his situation that might have soured the coach on MU?

Now, for the part that Killz will like me for. The part of the state that seems to best support MU as far as percentage of kids who commit to the larger D1 schools, it would clearly be Springfield. 5 out of 7 kids committing to MU. 1 to Arky and OU each. Really would have thought Arky and OU would be bigger players in Springfield.
