Stonehog:
Allen was the star of the scrimmage today, looked incredibly sharp and made some great throws into tight coverage. He looked very comfortable in the pocket and moved around well when under pressure. He made some good throws on the run as well.
You could count his incompletions on one hand. This was due in no small part to Herndon and Horton catching everything that came their way. They looked great out there today, and Horton made a spectacular circus catch and I swear he jumped 5 feet in the air. Demetrius Wilson and D'Arthur Cowan also looked good, but didn't get nearly as many looks as Horton and Herndon.
Hocker had some booming punts. One went about 90 yards. There was some wind helping him but he looks like a great punter.
Ollison looked solid at RT, didn't really let anyone get by him with those long arms. Hurd was at LT, Cook is at guard now.
Alex Collins is the real deal. His first two runs were spectacular, breaking multiple tackles and juking guys out. He was the best running back on the field today, Williams was second best. Collins is going to be a star here, no doubt.
Our D line is stout, never gave up any big runs up the middle. All of the big running plays were sweeps to the outside. The linebackers didn't really get a whole lot of action because the front 4 were so dominant against the run.
Chris Smith impressed, of course. His anticipation and football instincts are a sight to behold. There were plays when the other 10 guys on defense were fooled and Smith was seemingly the only person who knew where the ball was. He's the best player on defense by far.
Tequention Coleman made a huge tackle on Collins in the backfield, looks like he has a good nose for the ball as well.
Deatrich Wise also made some impressive plays in the backfield, his reaction time combined with his size is scary. Very quick for a guy that big (6'6" 275).
Braylon Mitchell, Jarrett Lake, and Austin Jones were the 3 starting LB's. They didn't get a whole lot of action all day, and I was mostly focusing on Allen and Collins when the 1's were out there. No one really stood out to me. Otha was with the 2's.
Tevin Mitchell made some great pass breakups, and Dayvon McKinney has impressive speed. He ran down J Will and made a great open field tackle. Our secondary is still the weakest position on the team though.
Overall the scrimmage made me feel a lot better about this season. You can't watch this team and honestly pick them to be last in the West.
