I think it's a ridiculous law. I have seen situations where a parent pressed charges for this when two people were dating in high school and the guy gets branded for life for being a sex offender for "carnal knowledge" of a minor that he ends up marrying. One case I saw the guy had a birthday and for three weeks they fit the criteria for "carnal knowledge" of a minor and then she had a birthday and they no longer fit the criteria. They still convicted him and he is now a sex offender for the rest of his life.
