You're right. Spending five years on that sociology diploma will really pay dividends.

They're no different than kids getting full scholarships to be in the choir or something. The difference is people actually care about football. Not to mention the legal violations when you pay only football players, or pay them more than others

lol...

You make it sound as if these kids, who announce their college intentions via ESPN, tweet nonstop, and who have been following ESPN since birth have no idea of how the system works.

The great one's get to train for pro jobs.

The average one's get to audition for pro jobs and get a free diploma, which does not have to be sociology.

The less-than-average one's get to keep playing a sport that they love, have an outside chance of maybe making a roster, and get a free degree.

The shitty one's get to keep playing a sport they love and have a chance to get a free degree.

This is not slave labor here.

You are right in the fact that the only thing kids get from playing college football is the degree and a shot at the NFL. There is no other benefit...

Heath Shuler is a U.S. Representative and owns his own Real Estate company because of his intellect and success in the NFL. It has nothing to do with his popularity as a college QB at UT.

Was Will Bartholomew able to make the connections to found D1 Sports based on his illustrious NFL career (two weeks in training camp)?

I'm sure J.C. Watts would have been a Congressman had he not played a down at Oklahoma.

Better than no diploma most of them would have received without football. Maybe they do deserve a little cash for spending, etc, but at Bama they get a three meals a day prepared by a chef hired by the athletic department. They have access to sick facilities which include entertainment, pools, and state of the art fitness equipment. They are well taken care of.

They really aren't playing for free. Kids that are on academic scholarship aren't provided food, and can you imagine how much one of these players eat in one day. They don't have gym/weight room fees, and if they're hurt they are taken care of by the trainer, and that's not for regular students. It's like people that are interns for jobs. You're in training for a better job later, and you don't get paid. If you're not that good of a player, take advantage of this and get that degree. It doesn't matter what it's in, because a lot of people get jobs that were not in their major field. Just get the degree.
If the players are good enough to go pro, there will be plenty of time to get paid for autographs, and it will be worth more then.
