Someone earlier had asked about what it would take to have a top 20 class. I messed around with 247's class calculator a bit and added to our class some kids that I would like to think Mizzou should be in position to land to see what it would do for our score. Obviously, we're not getting these kids but they're kids we should be able to get. I added:

Terry Beckner (Current leader)
Raequan Williams (Longshot but the kind of kid we should pursue)
Hale Hentges (In state)
Alex Ofodile (In state)
Carlos Davis (In state)
Khalil Davis (In state)
Marquise Doherty (In state)
Anree St. Amour (One time interested)
Daniel Imatorbhebhe (One time commit)

Adding those 9 gave us a score that would have ranked us 13 currently. Obviously, others scores will go up as they add recruits too, but that might be good enough alone to keep us in the top 20. It also gives us 22 recruits. If we processed, with at least 1 early enrollee, meaning actually 21 in this class. If we processed 4 kids and added 4 more kids to this class, we could continue to move up or maintain our position as others add recruits too.

I can't determine if 247 or Rivals value raw number of recruits vs stars more, both seem to have some really highly ranked teams that are mostly just huge piles of 3 stars.

I know some teams always seem to have larger than normal classes due to the way they "process out" the players who aren't cutting it. Classes that go past the normal 25 recruits per year get extra value, I suppose the talked about, proposed "4 year scholarship" might be something of a counter to this practice.

I know Saban takes a lot of criticism for this practice, but as long as he gets away with it he will do it, and as long as recruits are willing to risk making the squad at Bama, it seems he will. If Hentges gets "processed out" he really has no one to blame but himself.
