No shite he didn't go straight to Auburn he couldn't. The deal was being made.
Look they trusted Gene. He was an old friend. Why else do you make a hire of a Goat 1-10 coach at Iowa St. when you are Auburn?
Had Auburn hired another coach not already buddies with everyone - when the Cam sweepstakes was going down a new coach would have been wtf?
Gene needed out of Iowa St. Auburn needed someone to play ball knowing the floor is about to drop. Auburn fans needed a MNC.

You know we only stumbled upon Cam as a potential prospect because we went to Blinn to recruit his teammate right? None of our coaches had recruited him previously and had no prior connections to him.

Cecil Newton solicited MSU in November 2009, almost a full year after Chizik was hired. Cam left Florida almost a month after Chizik was hired.
