I don't think it will happen, nor should it be risked if Jones isn't 100% ready for it. You can get by on athletic ability, but only so many times before it catches up to you. I do agree with the sentiment of Geno Smith getting base reps outside(if not starting), for the sake of the future. Fulton is a Senior so there isn't much for him to work to past this season, and base 3-4 reps aren't exactly overly abundant anyway.

2014 looks scary on paper, will likely only be Smith and Jones with major reps as #2/#3 and #4 CBs respectively. No telling who will round out that trio at this point, may not even be on campus yet.

A lot of people like the safety depth, they mesh better with each other better than 2012. HCD has emerged as a rangy center fielder, so there is less stress on a rotation. Better depth, albeit not great depth, at CB will limit the times they place 4 safeties on the field to when they want to instead of having to.

Sunseri will take his verbal lumps from everyone, but getting out of man in the slot to more of his natural zone will help a lot. Very rarely can a safety cover a slot WR, so it wasn't something mutually exclusive to Vinnie. I don't think he gave up as many plays as people think he did, just that he was dead center of a few very crucial plays for the opposition(like the zone blitz with him stuck in man on a WR against LSU or the TE who drug him along for 10 yards in the final UGA drive).

Collins just needs the light to come on for him schematically. As I said above on Jones above, athleticism can only get you so far. Gotta know it, just look at the responsibilities they have in the playbook. Rashad Johnson was so good because he knew it above and beyond, and was given more responsibilities pre snap.

As long as Belue steps up as a #1 and HCD plays as expected, I think the rest will fill in well. Belue '13 has to be superior to Belue '12, playing well as a #2 isn't good enough as the guy at CB...

ETA: Damn, I'm long-winded as hell.

I'm with ya on all of this.

Not even just that. Mosley will be gone. A-Hubb is likely gone. If Trey shows out he could be gone too. That'd be the first time under Saban that we won't return a starting ILB that has started in his system. That's crucial, the LBs, especially the ILBs, is the heart of the defense. Plus Stinson/Ivory are gone and Pagan very well could be gone as well. Then HaHa could be gone at Safety. The defense will be interesting as a whole. Granted, the OL should return 3/5, though if CyKo gets hit on the head and picks his brother over the money, maybe 4/5. All the RBs (except maybe Fowler) and all of the WRs other than Bell/Norwood.

I do think HCD/Vinnie play well off of each other, but HCD/LC26 has the potential to completely shut down two halves of the field.

That's true, at SS/Money he'll perform well.

Exactly, if Collins turns it on and he and HaHa are together deep, I'm not gonna lie, I'll whip it out in the middle of Bryant Denny and go to town.

I think he will. He won't be as good as Milliner or Dre, but I think he has the potential, key word potential, to be the third best CB we've had under Saban on the outside. He did pack on a little muscle this Spring, so that'll help him out, but he's got the tools.
