Cam Newton and Tim Tebow led their teams to more impressive seasons. Granted, it wasn't their first year starting. Also, what were the casts like for the 3 teams? Who had the best offensive supporting cast? In their best seasons, who had the best defense?

A&M's 2012 schedule was a little tough, but they avoided South Carolina, whose eventually supposed to be their new rival, and Georgia — the SEC East Division Champ. They went 2-2 versus the 4 greatest teams on their schedule. 1-2 versus top ranked SEC teams.

I do agree with this. Said all last year, the linebackers especially. They were big and strong, well disciplined, but not as fast as the previous years. That's a big reason that they had trouble with QB's like JF. Their sideline to sideline speed wasn't as great as the previous years. Biggest reason Mett had his best game all year. LSU exploited the flats.

I'm not sure Saban has enough seasons at Alabama to establish a pattern, but his defenses have been elite in the odd years. This year's defense is expected to be better than last year's, but will be better than last season's in time for the A&M game?
